Learn moreBlue screens, freezing, slow boot times, hardware failures, and mysterious crashes. If your Windows desktop or workstation is giving you trouble, PC Genie diagnoses the actual problem and fixes it. We work on every brand of PC — Dell, HP, Lenovo, custom builds, and everything in between.
Desktop PCs are still the workhorses of many Austin homes and offices. When they fail, your productivity drops to zero. PC Genie specializes in diagnosing and repairing Windows desktop computers of every brand and configuration, from mass-market Dell and HP towers to custom-built gaming and workstation rigs.
The advantage of desktop repair over laptop repair is accessibility. Components are standardized, swappable, and almost always available without long factory lead times. A failed power supply, bad RAM stick, dying hard drive, or overheating CPU can usually be diagnosed and repaired in the same day. That means you get your machine back faster and at a lower cost than you might expect.
We also handle the software side. Windows update loops, driver conflicts, registry corruption, boot failures, and slow performance after years of accumulated clutter are problems we solve daily. Sometimes a fresh Windows install is the best path forward; sometimes a targeted cleanup and optimization is all you need. We will explain the tradeoff honestly and let you choose.
There is a reason many Austin PC owners skip the big-box stores and bring their machines directly to PC Genie:
Walk your PC tower into either Austin location during business hours. If it is too bulky, call ahead and we can advise whether to bring it or if the issue can be narrowed down remotely first.
We open the case, inspect the components, run hardware tests, check Windows logs, and identify the root cause. Standard PC/laptop diagnostics are $50 (gaming PCs $99) and include a written estimate for the repair.
You review the estimate and decide. If you decline, you pay only the diagnostic fee. If you approve, we get to work immediately.
We perform the fix, install any needed parts, and run thorough post-repair testing to confirm the problem is fully resolved.
We call you when it is ready. Pick up your PC, pay on completion, and get back to work. We walk you through what was done and answer any questions.
Yes. Blue screen errors (BSOD) are one of the most common issues we diagnose. Causes range from driver conflicts and bad RAM to overheating and disk errors. We identify the specific stop code and root cause, then fix it. If the problem is recurring hardware failure, we will tell you plainly whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Standard PC/laptop diagnostics are $50 (gaming PCs $99) and standard repair labor is $99/hr. Parts cost depends on what is needed. A power supply swap is under $100 in parts; a motherboard replacement will be more. We always quote the total before starting work so there are no surprises.
Yes. RAM and SSD upgrades are among the most effective ways to extend a PC's useful life. We check compatibility, recommend parts that match your motherboard, and install them. Most upgrades are completed the same day.
Absolutely. We troubleshoot and repair custom builds regardless of who originally assembled them. We have deep experience with aftermarket motherboards, power supplies, coolers, and GPUs. We also build custom PCs to order if you need a new machine tailored to your requirements.
In most cases, yes. No-power issues are usually caused by a failed power supply, a dead motherboard, or a faulty power button connection. We test each component individually to find the failure point and recommend the most cost-effective fix.
Many desktop repairs are completed same-day because components are easy to access and standardized. If a part needs to be ordered, we will give you a timeline, usually 1 to 3 business days for common components.
Tell us what your PC is doing. We will let you know whether to bring it in and give you a realistic idea of cost and turnaround time.
