Why Get a Custom-Built PC?
Pre-built PCs from big manufacturers are designed for the average user. They cut corners on the components you can't see — cheap power supplies, slow RAM, minimal airflow, proprietary motherboards that can't be upgraded. You pay for a brand name and get a computer that works fine today but becomes frustrating in a year.
A custom-built PC is different. Every component is chosen for a reason. You get the exact performance you need for gaming, video editing, 3D rendering, music production, software development, or whatever you actually use your computer for. Nothing is wasted on features you don't need, and nothing is compromised where it matters.
At PC Genie, we've built hundreds of custom PCs for Austin customers. Whether you know exactly what you want or you just know you need "a fast gaming PC for around $1,200," we'll put together a build that makes sense for your use case and your budget.
Types of Custom Builds We Do
Gaming PCs
Gaming builds are our bread and butter. We build systems around the games you actually play and the resolution and frame rates you want. A competitive esports player running Counter-Strike at 1080p needs a very different build than someone playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with ray tracing. We'll ask the right questions and recommend components that actually match your gaming habits.
We use quality parts from reputable brands — no off-brand PSUs, no bottom-barrel cases with zero airflow. Every gaming build gets proper thermal paste application, clean cable management, and thorough stress testing before you take it home.
Creative Workstations
Video editors, 3D artists, photographers, and music producers have different needs than gamers. You might need 64GB of RAM, a professional-grade GPU, multiple NVMe drives for scratch and storage, or a CPU with maximum core count. We build workstations that handle your actual workflow — not just benchmarks.
Home Office and Productivity PCs
Not everyone needs a powerhouse. If you need a reliable desktop for email, web browsing, document editing, video calls, and light photo editing, we'll build you something quiet, efficient, and affordable that doesn't include $300 worth of gaming hardware you'll never use.
Upgrades to Existing Systems
Sometimes you don't need a whole new PC. A new GPU, an SSD to replace a spinning hard drive, more RAM, or a better CPU cooler can transform your existing system's performance. We assess what you have, identify the bottleneck, and recommend the upgrade that gives you the biggest improvement for the least money.

Pickup
We walk you through your new system, explain the components, and make sure you're comfortable with everything.
Custom builds vary widely based on components. Budget gaming builds start around $600-800 for parts. Mid-range gaming rigs run $1,000-1,500. High-end builds can be $2,000+. Our build labor fee is separate from parts cost and quoted per project.
Either way works. We can help you select and order components, or you can bring parts you've already purchased. If you want our help selecting, we'll recommend components that match your budget and use case — and we don't mark up parts.
Assembly typically takes 1-3 business days once all parts are in hand. If we're ordering components, add shipping time. We test thoroughly before calling you for pickup.
We warranty our assembly work. Individual components carry their manufacturer warranties, which we help you understand and register. If something goes wrong, bring it back and we'll diagnose it.
Yes. We build workstations for video editors, 3D artists, music producers, and other creative professionals. These builds prioritize different components than gaming rigs, and we know the differences.
Absolutely. Often a targeted upgrade — new GPU, more RAM, SSD swap — gives you the performance boost you need at a fraction of the cost. We'll assess your current system and recommend the most impactful upgrade.
